Stellar Engines

Stellar Engines Imagine you are a 16 year old interning to be an astronomer in NASA. One fine night you notice something strange. You see a tiny red spot in the sky while stargazing using your Celestron 660 Power Vision telescope. You know how red stars look like, but this looks different. It looks very suspicious and you believe that aliens have finally arrived. You submit the picture to the NASA Astronomy Department. They immediately use the small but efficient telescopes in their department. It looks very strange and they are unable to identify it. They immediately alert the Mauna Kea Observatories in Hawaii. The observatories are able to pin point the location for th...

How to Start an Inter-Universal Civilization Part – 2

How to Start an Inter-Universal Civilization Part – 2 Last article we discussed that you are a man who has been granted immortal life until we establish full control over the multi-verse. We must also reach stage 5 on the Kardashev Scale. Since this is a huge task, James has been given immortality. The solar mission is still going on and we are collecting every scrap of resource to make the Dyson Sphere. From Mercury we found a very strong metal and named it Kalnet. Kalnet is super strong and durable. But Kalnet is very rare so we won't be able to do a lot with it. Now we must choose another alternative. We have strip-mined Venus, Mercury, Mars and the Moon, this won't cut it. Since there are no more rocky planets left in the Solar system, we can start mining asteroids. Asteroids are small celestial bodies(not very small) which are usually found in the Asteroid Belt and the Kuiper Belt. I once saw a Kurzgesagt video about mining asteroids.  An idea to mine asteroids is t...

How to Start an Inter-Universal Civilization Part 1

How to Start an Inter-Universal Civilization Part 1  Our dream has always been to annex space like in the sci-fi shows. They are always bouncing around in their spaceships and colonizing planets. If we want to become like them, we need fuel or energy which we can get from the Dyson Sphere which we discussed in the previous articles. Once we have this sorted, we can safely try to go beyond our solar system. Won’t that be exciting? Let us start our journey.  Imagine you are a character, say James Peter. You have received the boon of being immortal and have the power to see all of the stages of our universe until it dies. You start on Present day earth where everything is fine and dandy. America is fighting with other countries for oil, Covid 19 is slowly being killed as the vaccine has been made, India is still defending itself from the rest of the subcontinent etc etc etc. Few Months later the solar mission has started. Every country is contributing money as well as its space ...

Kardashev Scale

Kardashev Scale One of many topics in science fiction is Aliens. How do we know how advanced Aliens are? Well, we don’t. We don’t know who aliens are; where they live and how do we reach to them. To know how advanced they are we use the KARDASHEV SCALE. This method was proposed by Soviet Astronomer Nikolai Kardashev. The Kardashev Scale is used to measure any civilization’s technological advancement. It has 5 stages - Stage 1- This stage is when the civilization has gained absolute complete control over their planet’s resources. We would all think that we are at Stage 1, but we are not. We have not yet gained complete control. We have yet to make flying cars, rockets that can travel to the Mars with people in it etc. We are currently at Stage 0.75 as we have harnessed most of our Earth’s energy. Stage 2- This stage is when the civilization has gained complete control of their solar system and have created a Dyson Sphere and are using its energy to venture beyond the solar...
